Canosa di Puglia merchants protest Lino Banfi museum project
A proposed 3.1 million euro cinema-museum dedicated to the actor Lino Banfi has sparked protests from local merchants in Canosa di Puglia. The project aims to transform Piazza Galluppi into a socio-cultural hub celebrating the actor's career.
Local business owners are opposing the plan because the proposed site currently hosts the city's market. Merchants argue that relocating the market would harm the local economy and disrupt long-standing family businesses. While the Mayor, Vito Malcangio, has suggested a compromise to integrate a cinema and museum while maintaining existing commercial activities, shopkeepers remain unconvinced, insisting the market is vital for the area's socio-economic development.
Rosanna Banfi, daughter of the actor, noted that while her father is happy about the recognition, he does not wish to be involved in the local dispute.
