Cansanção Mayor barred from hiring after 1,825 irregular appointments

The Court of Municipal Accounts of Bahia (TCM-BA) has upheld a precautionary measure against the mayor of Cansanção, Vilma Rosa de Oliveira Gomes. The ruling prohibits new temporary hires without a prior selection process and prevents the extension of existing contracts that do not comply with current legislation.

Investigations revealed that the municipal administration hired 1,825 temporary employees during the first quarter of 2026 without publishing any selection notices or public instruments. The TCM-BA noted that the administration failed to provide sufficient documentation to prove the regularization of these irregular contracts. The municipality has been given up to 60 days to complete a simplified selection process or submit a formal schedule to resolve the situation.
