CanSino Biologics booster vaccine NDA accepted by China’s NMPA
CanSino Biologics Inc. has announced that China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has accepted the New Drug Application (NDA) for its Tetanus, Reduced Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Acellular, Five Components) Combined Vaccine, Adsorbed. Known as Td5cp Adolescent and Adult, the vaccine is intended as a booster for individuals aged six years and older.
The development comes amid a resurgence of pertussis, a highly contagious respiratory illness. In China, reported cases exceeded 470,000 in 2024, marking a significant increase from the previous year. Until now, China has lacked a dedicated booster immunization product specifically for the six-and-above age group.
If authorized, the Td5cp vaccine will complement CanSino Biologics’ existing three-component DTaP vaccine, Tripecia, which was approved for infants earlier this year. The new vaccine includes two additional pertussis antigens, FIM2 and FIM3, to ensure product consistency. This initiative aligns with China’s ‘15th Five-Year Plan for Disease Prevention and Control,’ which promotes a life-course immunization strategy to provide protection across all age groups.
