Cantù Council rejects motion to revoke Mussolini's honorary citizenship

The Cantù City Council has rejected a motion proposed by opposition groups to revoke the honorary citizenship granted to Benito Mussolini in 1924. Instead, the motion sought to transfer that honor to Giacomo Matteotti, marking the centenary of his assassination.

The vote was conducted under the presence of four members of Ultima Legione, a far-right neofascist group, who were seated among the public. The council's majority, including the Mayor and the administration, voted to maintain Mussolini's honorary status, effectively turning away from the proposal to honor Matteotti.
