Cantabria celebrates Virgen de la Bien Aparecida with liturgical acts

Liturgical ceremonies honoring the Virgen de la Bien Aparecida, the patron saint of the Diocese of Santander and Cantabria, will take place from Monday, September 14, to Tuesday, September 15. The events will be centered at the Santuario de Marrón in Ampuero, serving as a pilgrimage site for hundreds of devotees.

On Monday, scheduled activities include several masses, a Marian act featuring a floral offering from Laredo, and the ‘Rosario de las Antorchas’, a processional involving candles. On Tuesday, September 15, hourly masses will be held from 6:00 to 11:00. The solemn mass at 12:00 will be presided over by Bishop Arturo Ros and is expected to be attended by regional, political, and military authorities.

The devotion dates back to 1605, when an unexplained image of the Virgin was discovered in a small hermitage in the Somahoz area.
