Cantabria healthcare services report significant summer activity increase

Healthcare services in Cantabria have seen a significant surge in activity during the summer season. Primary Care Emergency Services (SUAP) reported an increase in activity of more than 40%, while hospital emergency departments experienced a 24% rise in demand, with Valdecilla Hospital seeing the highest volume.

Additionally, mobile intensive care unit (UVI móvil) transfers through 061 Cantabria increased by 39%. Health Counselor César Pascual noted that while the complexity of emergencies remains stable, the high volume of low-complexity cases is putting pressure on the system, especially as a third of the staff is on vacation. To manage this, summer hiring was strategically directed toward reinforcing SUAP services with double shifts.
