Cantabria Parliament approves Teacher Authority and School Bullying Law
The Parliament of Cantabria has passed the Teacher Authority and School Coexistence Law, a measure supported by the PP and Vox but opposed by the PRC and PSOE. The legislation, which follows two years of development by the regional government, officially recognizes teachers as public authorities and establishes regulations regarding school bullying for the first time in the autonomous community.
The law is organized into three titles and 20 articles. The first title defines the authority of teaching staff, recognizing their rights during the exercise of their duties and establishing support measures. The second title addresses coexistence within educational centers, identifying behaviors that violate coexistence rules—specifically school bullying—and setting corrective measures, responsibilities, and protocols for repairing damages.
