Cantabria tourism highlights La Hermida gorge and Liérganes

The Cantabria region in Spain offers diverse natural and historical attractions, including the La Hermida gorge and the village of Liérganes.

La Hermida is a significant natural corridor in western Cantabria, featuring a 21-kilometer gorge carved by the Deva River through limestone walls. Accessible via the N-621 highway, it serves as a gateway to the Liébana valley and is noted for its viewpoints, hiking opportunities, and thermal waters.

Liérganes provides a different historical perspective, with a historic center protected as a Cultural Interest Asset. The town experienced economic growth in the 17th century following the establishment of the Royal Artillery Factory. Its architecture is characterized by manor houses and stone bridges, such as the Puente Mayor built in 1606. The area is also home to the legend of the 'Hombre Pez' (Fish Man), centered around the figure of Francisco de la Vega.
