Cantal: Memorial march held for teacher following homophobic harassment

More than 200 people gathered in Aurillac to honor Caroline Grandjean, a school director who died by suicide on September 1, 2025, following two years of homophobic harassment. The memorial included a march led by former colleagues and students.

Grandjean, who worked in the village of Moussages in the Cantal region, had been the target of hateful messages and graffiti, including slurs and false accusations regarding her sexuality. Despite filing multiple complaints, an initial investigation was closed without further action. Grandjean had eventually left her position, citing a lack of support from the Éducation nationale.

A subsequent administrative inquiry concluded in February that there was an “institutional failure in the support” provided to Grandjean. Her widow, Christine Grandjean-Paccoud, has filed complaints against the former mayor of Moussages and the national education system, seeking justice and accountability for the circumstances leading to her wife's death.
