Cantanhede awards 1.68 million euro waterfront project

The Cantanhede Municipal Council has awarded a contract to the company Alvorada Tranquila for the requalification of the Praia da Tocha waterfront. The project involves an investment of approximately 1.68 million euros.

The works are expected to begin this year with a 450-day execution period, aiming for completion by the end of spring 2028. To protect the local economy, no construction work will take place during the 2027 bathing season, and the contractor must ensure continued access for residents and businesses.

The project aims to improve beach access, implement sustainable permeable paving, and preserve local heritage, such as the ‘palheiros da Tocha’. The initiative, which was the most voted project in the municipality's first Participatory Budget, seeks to prioritize pedestrian movement over vehicles to create a more resilient and functional coastal area.
