Cantanhede invests over 100,000 euros in student residence

The Cantanhede Municipality has invested over 100,000 euros to establish a student residence for the School of Health Technology of the Polytechnic University of Coimbra. The facility, located at the Rovisco Pais Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tocha, will accommodate 30 students for the new Occupational Therapy degree starting in the 2026/2027 academic year.

The total investment includes approximately 80,000 euros previously approved for the renovation of the former Hotel Branco buildings, which now house the residence. A recent municipal decision approved an additional 20,978.50 euros to be granted to APPACDM of Coimbra, the entity responsible for managing the residence, to furnish student rooms with essential furniture such as beds, desks, and chairs.

Mayor Helena Teodósio stated that the initiative aims to simultaneously invest in education, affordable housing, youth, the local economy, and the municipality's demographic future. All 34 available spots for the inaugural Occupational Therapy degree have already been filled.
