Cantanhede municipality allocates €70,520 to local cultural associations
On 28 July, the municipality of Cantanhede in Portugal distributed a financial envelope of €70,520 to 39 cultural, musical and recreational associations in the district. The funding, which includes €21,156 (30 %) earmarked for the four local philharmonic bands, also supports music schools, choirs, theatre groups and ethnographic projection collectives.
Mayor Helena Teodósio said the subsidies demonstrate “manifest support for the continuity of the municipal associative movement, with clear repercussions for the parishes, the region and the country,” emphasizing that the investment fosters social cohesion, cultural preservation and civic participation. Deputy mayor for Culture Pedro Cardoso added that the backing is “crucial and irreplaceable” for bringing culture to residents, protecting local heritage and encouraging inclusivity. The municipality will also continue providing logistical, technical and project‑specific assistance under signed programme contracts with the beneficiary groups.
