Cantina Bozen celebrates 40 years of S. Maddalena Classico

Cantina Bozen is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its S. Maddalena Classico wine, ‘Huck am Bach’. The label, first produced in 1986, is tied to the Huck am Bach estate in Santa Maddalena, Bolzano, which has been owned by the same family since 1783.

The wine is an Alto Adige Doc S. Maddalena Classico, primarily composed of Schiava grapes with a smaller portion of Lagrein. The vineyards are located at altitudes between 250 and 500 meters on gravelly, porphyry-rich soil. Due to the steep terrain, manual labor is still required for vineyard maintenance.

Philipp Plattner, president of the cooperative, noted that the S. Maddalena represents one of the finest expressions of the Schiava grape and remains a vital part of the winery’s tradition.
