Cantre’r Gwaelod legend explored in new S4C series

Singer Aleighcia Scott is exploring the legend of Cantre’r Gwaelod, a mythical Welsh kingdom said to have been submerged beneath Cardigan Bay, in a new episode of her S4C series, “Gwalia Aleighcia”.

During the program, Scott investigates the historical and archaeological basis for the legend alongside Luke Davies. They discuss potential evidence of ancient settlements in the area, including Mesolithic finds and a wooden trackway dating back approximately 4,000 years. The episode also touches upon the figure of Seithennyn, who is central to some versions of the legend regarding the loss of the land.

As part of her journey to learn the Welsh language and explore the country's musical heritage, Scott performs the song “Clychau Cantre’r Gwaelod” with Patrick Rimes and Jordan Price Williams of the folk group Vrï.
