Cantv retirees protest in Venezuela over unpaid bonuses and medical coverage

Retirees and survivors of the state-owned telecommunications company Cantv held protests in Caracas and Puerto La Cruz to demand the restoration of economic benefits and medical coverage.

In Caracas, demonstrators submitted a document requesting the payment of outstanding assignments and the fulfillment of benefits promised to retired workers. Alberto Garrido Ojeda, president of the Association of Retirees, Pensioners, and Survivors in the Caracas area, stated that the vital bonus represents approximately 75% of the monthly income for these individuals. He noted that while the bonus was previously set at $200, there have been discrepancies and suspensions in payments.

In Puerto La Cruz, protesters expressed frustration over the reduction of a bonus from $200 to $150 and the lack of guaranteed medical insurance. Retirees reported that they have been demanding the full payment and reimbursement of missing funds for several months, describing the situation as a humiliation after decades of service to the company.
