Canudos International Literary Fair launches with prominent writers and filmmakers

The VII International Literary Fair of Canudos (Flican) began on Wednesday, 29 May, running through Saturday, 1 June, and gathered Brazilian and international writers, researchers, artists and filmmakers. Highlights included Portuguese filmmaker Miguel Gomes, a Cannes award‑winner discussing his new film inspired by Euclides da Cunha, and a line‑up of literary figures such as Conceição Evaristo, Daniel Munduruku and Fabiano Piúba. The program also featured academic specialists, a tribute to geographer Milton Santos, and a range of cultural activities including cinema, theatre, exhibitions and children’s workshops.

Separately, the organizers of the 9th Mucugê Literary Fair (Fligê) announced the musical schedule for its 2026 edition, set for 13‑16 August in Chapada Diamantina. The program will showcase artists such as Chico César, Maria Gadú, Armandinho and others, integrating music, oral tradition and literary discussions. The 2025 edition attracted about 35,000 visitors from 73 municipalities and fully occupied local hotels, underscoring the growing cultural impact of literary festivals in Bahia.
