Cao Bằng Province Starts First Social Housing Project and Reduces Administrative Units

The Cao Bằng provincial Department of Construction announced that a proposal to develop the province's first social housing project has been approved. The plan involves converting the former provincial Social Insurance office in Nùng Trí Cao ward into a rental complex with 35 apartments, with construction slated to begin by the end of 2026. Officials highlighted challenges including land availability, investment funding and ensuring affordable housing for low‑income residents.

In a separate briefing, the provincial People's Committee reported that 545 village and hamlet administrative units have been merged, reducing the total number of such units by 37.2% to 917. The reorganisation combined 1,052 of 1,462 existing units into 507 new ones. Despite these changes, the province's gross regional domestic product grew by 7.85% in the first half of 2026, ranking sixth among the nine northern mid‑mountain provinces, though still short of the 9.09% target.
