Cao Van Dat sentenced to life imprisonment for real estate fraud

Cao Van Dat, a 54-year-old businessman and former construction company director, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court for fraud and misappropriation of assets.

Between December 2020 and January 2021, Dat falsely claimed ownership of eight land plots in the Binh Thanh district to two acquaintances from Hanoi. He deceived the victims into transferring 40 billion VND, promising to complete land use certificate procedures. While Dat eventually returned 4 billion VND, the victims are seeking the return of the remaining 40 billion VND, including principal and interest.
