Caorle beach fatality: Austrian tourist dies after medical emergency

A 59-year-old Austrian tourist died on Thursday afternoon after suffering a sudden medical emergency while swimming in the Adriatic resort of Caorle, Italy. The man was approximately 20 meters from the shore when he was struck by a sudden illness.

Lifeguards and the man's brother immediately attempted to assist him. Emergency services, including a medical team from Caorle and a rescue helicopter from Treviso, arrived to perform resuscitation efforts. Despite continuous life-saving maneuvers lasting approximately 50 minutes, medical professionals were unable to revive him.

This incident is part of a rising number of fatalities along the Venetian Adriatic coast this summer. The death brings the total number of fatalities at these beaches this season to 13. Most of these cases have been attributed to cardiovascular issues occurring during swimming or walking along the shore, often exacerbated by high summer temperatures.
