Cap d'Agde tourism declines 9% amid drop in French visitors

Cap d'Agde Méditerranée has reported a 9% decline in tourist overnight stays between May 1 and July 31, 2026, compared to the same period in 2025. The destination recorded nearly 5 million overnight stays during this timeframe.

The downturn is largely attributed to a 15% decrease in French visitors, reflecting a broader trend across the Occitanie coastline where overnight stays fell by 8%. In contrast, international tourism showed resilience, with a 2% increase overall. Specifically, in July, international overnight stays rose by 6%.

Tourism Director Hugo Alvarez noted that economic pressures are causing households to manage spending more strictly and book trips later. This shift, combined with calendar effects such as the timing of Ascension and Pentecost, has created more uncertain forecasting for the season.
