Capaccio Paestum council deadlock stalls budget and 2026 financial plan

The municipal council of Capaccio Paestum failed to reach a majority, resulting in a tie vote on eight agenda items. The deadlock prevented approval of the general budget settlement and the safeguard of financial balances for 2026. Mayor Gaetano Paolino announced plans to assess potential conflicts of interest among officials and indicated that any further absence or vote could determine the administration’s future. If the council cannot secure a majority, the prefect may appoint a commissioner and dissolve the council.

The stalemate underscores ongoing political instability in the town, with the next council meeting expected to decide whether the current administration can continue its mandate.
