Capanema fire kills four family members in Pará

A major fire in Capanema, located in northeastern Pará, resulted in the deaths of four members of the same family. The blaze began on the night of Saturday, October 5, at the Loja do Soares, a commercial establishment that also contained residential quarters on the upper floor.

The victims, identified in preliminary reports as Maria Valentina Holanda Soares (8), Pietro Ribeiro Soares, José Ribeiro Soares, and Charlene Dielly Damasceno, were reportedly trapped on the second floor. Witnesses stated the family attempted to seek help through a window as smoke filled the building. While neighbors attempted rescue efforts using ladders, intense heat and smoke hindered access.

Firefighters worked through the early hours of Sunday to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent properties. Due to the risk of structural collapse, emergency teams faced difficulties entering the building for a full sweep. The Civil Police and forensic experts have been called to investigate the cause of the fire and the circumstances of the rapid spread. The Governor of Pará, Hana Ghasan, stated that the state government is providing support to the grieving family.
