Capcom announces REX project to upgrade RE Engine with AI tools

Capcom has announced the REX project, an initiative to incrementally upgrade its RE Engine to meet the demands of modern, large-scale game development. During a recent recruitment conference, programmer Satoshi Ishida detailed plans to improve the engine through a series of software architecture updates rather than building a new system from scratch.

A key component of this evolution involves the integration of artificial intelligence to increase developer efficiency. Capcom clarified that the company does not intend to use generative AI to create game content or art. Instead, AI tools will be utilized to assist with technical processes, such as writing and testing code, analyzing large datasets, and optimizing development workflows.

The move aims to address the increasing complexity and resource requirements of contemporary game titles, allowing developers to manage massive projects more effectively by automating repetitive technical tasks.
