Capcom Confirms Resident Evil Veronica Remake Will Use Third‑Person Perspective
Capcom announced at Summer Game Fest 2026 that it is developing a remake of the 2000 title Resident Evil: Code Veronica, now titled Resident Evil Veronica. The game will launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
Series producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi clarified that the remake will be played exclusively from a third‑person over‑the‑shoulder view, with no option to switch to first‑person. He said, “this game will be a third‑person game,” and added that the first‑person sections shown in the reveal trailer were deliberately included to “surprise and delight players.” The remake will use Capcom’s RE Engine, feature modernized gameplay similar to the Resident Evil 2 and 4 remakes, and retain Claire Redfield as the sole protagonist. Narrative elements will be reorganized for smoother pacing, but iconic moments will be preserved.
Capcom aims to modernize the title while respecting its legacy, positioning Resident Evil Veronica as a major mainline entry in the franchise’s canon.
