Capcom keeps Diana's elaborate hair in Pragmata despite cost concerns

Capcom developers of the sci‑fi action game Pragmata considered shortening the main android character Diana’s hair to reduce development expenses. The team originally planned to model roughly 430,000 individual hair strands, far more than the typical 22‑point “hair‑card” approach, which would have raised costs substantially. After weighing the visual impact, Capcom decided Diana’s large, realistic hair was essential to the game’s feel and reduced the final model to under 20,000 strands.

The decision was highlighted at the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference, where the developers explained the technical challenges and cost trade‑offs. Pragmata has sold about 2.5 million copies, suggesting the visual investment may have paid off.
