Capcom targets annual Resident Evil releases by leveraging remakes

Capcom producer Masachika Kawata explained that the company aims to make Resident Evil an annual franchise. Because creating a brand‑new main‑line entry each year would be a massive undertaking, Capcom plans to alternate new titles with remakes of older games. Kawata stressed that the remakes are “just as important” as the mainline releases and that revenue from these projects funds new intellectual property such as the upcoming original title Pragmata.

The strategy includes a scheduled remake of the 2000 Dreamcast classic Resident Evil Code Veronica, slated for 2027, and a continued focus on high‑quality remakes rather than spin‑offs like Revelations or Outbreak. In parallel, Capcom has also made the original Resident Evil trilogy available on Steam, extending the franchise’s reach to modern platforms.

Overall, the publisher sees the remake cycle as a sustainable model that supports both yearly releases and broader development ambitions.
