Capcom plans character overhaul for Resident Evil Veronica remake

At Summer Game Fest 2026 Capcom announced Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the 2000 title Resident Evil: Code Veronica slated for release in 2027. Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi explained that the development team is re‑examining the story of villain Alfred Ashford, whose original portrayal featured a controversial cross‑dressing line. Hirabayashi said the remake will delve deeper into Ashford’s motivations, personality split with his sister Alexia, and broader themes of love and excess, while aiming for a more nuanced horror experience. The final character treatment has not been decided, but the team indicated that the offensive line is unlikely to appear in the new version. Resident Evil Veronica will be presented as a third‑person game, continuing Capcom’s recent trend of re‑imagining classic titles with updated narrative and gameplay elements.
