Capcom plans Resident Evil narrative crossover as remakes catch up to modern titles
Capcom executive producer Jun Takeuchi has revealed a long-term strategy for the Resident Evil franchise, noting that the series is currently being developed along two parallel tracks. One track focuses on numbered titles that advance the ongoing narrative, while the other involves remakes that revisit past events.
Takeuchi indicated that Capcom is preparing for the eventual moment when the remake timeline catches up to the era of the modern numbered entries. To facilitate this convergence, the company has been weaving connective lore into recent releases, such as Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil Requiem, through the inclusion of established elements like Umbrella, Spencer, and Raccoon City. This is intended to lead toward an eventual crossover between the two narrative lines.
Regarding the remake pipeline, Capcom has successfully updated Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4. A remake of Code Veronica is slated for next year, with reports suggesting a Resident Evil 0 remake could arrive in 2028. Once the classic catalog is exhausted, the remaining mainline titles for potential adaptation would be Resident Evil 5 and 6.
