Capcom releases Onimusha: Way of the Sword for Switch 2
Capcom has released Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in 20 years. The title is available on the Nintendo Switch 2 and features a dark fantasy setting in Edo-period Kyoto, where players battle underworld monstrosities known as Genma.
The game follows the samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who utilizes a mystical artifact called the Oni Gauntlet to fight. In a notable design choice, Capcom used the likeness of the late Japanese cinema legend Toshiro Mifune for the protagonist's face model. The Switch 2 version includes exclusive motion control support via Joy-Con 2 controllers.
Technical reviews of the Switch 2 version note that the game maintains high-quality character models and detailed environments, comparable to the PS5 version when played docked. While the game offers an uncapped framerate option that averages in the mid-40s, some players have found the high difficulty level to be frustrating and unrewarding.
