Capcom Restarts Development of Resident Evil 0 Remake

Capcom has halted the existing work on a Resident Evil 0 remake and moved the project to its flagship Division 1 team, effectively restarting development. The shift aims to rebuild the game using the latest RE Engine, with upgraded graphics, AI‑driven partner mechanics and modernized co‑op controls.

Internal sources indicate the new schedule targets a release around 2027, though the date may shift if other series projects take priority. The decision follows the commercial success of recent titles such as Resident Evil Village (over 8 million copies sold) and the well‑received Resident Evil 4 remake, reinforcing Capcom’s strategy of delivering high‑budget remakes of classic entries on a regular 12‑18‑month cadence.

Capcom’s broader plan includes additional remakes and new projects in the franchise, including potential VR versions and trans‑media expansions, ensuring the Umbrella‑horror series remains a staple for upcoming console generations.
