Capcom says shift to digital sales will limit impact of physical game disc decline
Capcom stated that roughly 90% of its game units are now sold digitally and that the ongoing reduction in physical disc sales is not expected to significantly affect its business. The comment was made during a Q&A following the company’s latest financial results, which showed revenue of ¥70.41 billion (about US$430 million) and operating profit of ¥41.05 billion (about US$250 million) for the quarter ended 30 June. Sales volume rose to 23.81 million units, up from 14.16 million a year earlier, driven by both new releases and a strong catalog of older titles.
Capcom also highlighted its digital ecosystem, noting that the CAPCOM ID service now has more than 10 million registered users and that the company plans to expand its Capcom Town Store e‑commerce platform. The publisher set a target of 65 million games sold for the current fiscal year, citing the synergy between new releases such as Resident Evil Requiem and continued sales of earlier series entries.
