Cape Coast urged to redevelop dilapidated buildings
Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, Chairperson of Parliament’s Local Government and Rural Development Committee, has called on the Central Regional Coordinating Council (CRCC) to develop plans for the demolition and redevelopment of dilapidated buildings in Cape Coast.
During a hearing regarding the 2025 Annual Audit Statement, Sawyerr noted that the collapse of old structures poses security threats to residents and negatively impacts the city's aesthetics. She emphasized the need for the CRCC to engage stakeholders, including religious leaders, chiefs, and property owners, to address the issue of old, muddy buildings that obstruct roads and endanger the public.
The committee's review included various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) within the Central Region to assess housing conditions and regional development.
