Cape Cod tourism sees record train ridership and seasonal shifts

The CapeFLYER, a seasonal passenger train service connecting Boston to Cape Cod, recorded its highest summer ridership since its 2013 launch. During the summer service window, 16,045 passengers utilized the route, marking a 7% increase over the previous year.

The service, operated through a partnership between the MBTA, Keolis, and the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, provides a two-hour and 40-minute alternative to the heavy traffic typically found on the bridges crossing the Cape Cod Canal.

Local tourism experts note that the region also experiences a “second summer” between Labor Day and mid-October. This period is characterized by warmer water and active restaurants but significantly reduced traffic congestion compared to the peak July and August seasons.
