Cape Coral voters to decide charter amendments and mayoral candidates

Cape Coral voters will decide on three proposed city charter amendments during the August 18 primary election. The amendments aim to clarify the process for electing a mayor pro tem, establish new residency requirements for City Council members within their districts, and modify how candidates submit proof of residency.

In addition to the charter changes, the primary election includes races for mayor and City Council seats in Districts 1 and 6. Candidates for the mayor's office, including Lisa Cohen-Adkinson and Richard Erickson, are campaigning on platforms ranging from infrastructure and fiscal accountability to critiques of current city spending and bureaucracy.
