Cape May ranked as one of the spookiest cities in America
Cape May, New Jersey, has been ranked as the sixth-spookiest city in the United States for 2026, according to a study by Vivint. The ranking places the Jersey Shore destination ahead of well-known Halloween hubs such as Salem, Massachusetts, New Orleans, and Savannah.
The study analyzed 74 U.S. cities based on several factors, including reported ghost sightings, haunted locations, haunted house attractions, paranormal-related businesses, and spooky-related Google searches. While Cape May recorded only two reported ghost sightings, its high ranking was driven by other metrics. The town holds the second-highest concentration of spiritual shop listings in the study, with approximately 364.5 listings per 10,000 residents, and ranks sixth nationwide for haunted house attraction listings.
In the overall rankings, Cape May placed behind Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, but outperformed major cities including Los Angeles, Austin, and New York City.
