Cape May Zoo welcomes two new snow leopards
The Cape May Zoo has announced the arrival of two new snow leopards, Valens and Asha, as part of a conservation effort. Valens is a 7-year-old male transferred from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, while Asha is a 1-year-old female from the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The pair has been recommended as a future breeding pair through the Species Survival Plan (SSP). This initiative aims to maintain healthy, genetically diverse populations of the species, which is currently listed as endangered with fewer than 10,000 individuals estimated to remain in the wild.
