Cape Town announces bridge repairs and water disruptions
The City of Cape Town has announced several infrastructure maintenance projects affecting transportation and water services.
The Urban Mobility Directorate is conducting repairs on multiple bridge structures and pedestrian crossings along Jakes Gerwel Drive. The project, which spans from the Bonte-Langa pedestrian bridge to the Newfields pedestrian bridges, aims to restore concrete and steel fixtures to a safe condition. The work is expected to continue through June 30, 2027, with scheduled hours between 06:00 and 19:00, Monday through Saturday.
Separately, the Water and Sanitation Directorate has scheduled essential maintenance from September 21 to September 25, 2026. This work involves pipe and valve installations and repairs, which will cause temporary water supply disruptions in several areas, including Sun Valley, Kensington, Flamingo Vlei, Mfuleni, Green Point, Newlands, and Belhar. Residents in these locations are advised to store water in advance of the scheduled shutdowns.
