Cape Town initiates major road and drainage infrastructure upgrades
Cape Town is undertaking several major road infrastructure projects to improve traffic flow and drainage. On Oliver Tambo Drive in Samora Machel, rehabilitation work is currently on schedule. This phase, covering the stretch between Jakes Gerwel Drive and Lillian Ngoyi Street, focuses on installing new underground drainage pipes, manholes, and catchpits to prevent water damage, followed by asphalt resurfacing and sidewalk repairs.
Additionally, a significant intersection upgrade is set to begin at the intersection of Okavango Road and Amadeus Drive. Scheduled to run until May 2027, the project aims to ease congestion in the Kraaifontein and Durbanville areas. The work includes widening the intersection, building dual roadways, and replacing open-channel drainage with a formal piped network. Motorists are advised to expect partial lane closures and traffic disruptions during the construction period.
