Cape Town offers free access to nature reserves for Heritage weekend

The City of Cape Town has announced free access to several of its nature reserves during the Heritage Day weekend, running from Thursday, 24 September, to Sunday, 27 September 2026. The initiative is part of the city’s Heritage Month programme, intended to encourage residents and visitors to engage with the region’s natural landscapes and biodiversity.

Participating reserves that typically require entrance fees include Blaauwberg, Tygerberg, Table Bay, and Helderberg. The city’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews, stated that the goal is to celebrate the city’s natural heritage and provide accessible spaces for activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and picnicking.
