Cape Town police arrest five smash-and-grab suspects using drones

Five suspects were arrested in Elsies River following a series of smash-and-grab incidents. The operation was a joint effort involving the South African Police Service (SAPS), City Law Enforcement, and Metro Police.

Authorities utilized CCTV footage and intelligence to identify the suspects. During the operation, the City of Cape Town’s drone team provided aerial surveillance, which proved critical when one suspect attempted to flee. The drone maintained visual contact during a 20-minute foot pursuit, guiding officers on the ground to the individual.
