Bubista hired by RS Berkane after Cape Verde's World Cup success

Pedro Brito, known as Bubista, led the Cape Verde national football team to a historic debut at the 2026 World Cup, drawing with eventual champions Spain and Uruguay and reaching the round of 32 before a narrow extra‑time loss to Argentina. His achievements earned him African Coach of the Year in 2025. In August 2026 he left the national team and signed a contract through 2028 to become head coach of Moroccan club Renaissance Berkane (RS Berkane). The club, league champions in 2025 and runners‑up in 2026, also won the CAF Confederation Cup in 2025 and will compete in the African Champions League. The Cape Verde Football Federation thanked Bubista for his “dedication, professionalism and contribution” and announced that a successor will be named soon. Negotiations for the move involved agents Mohamed Rezki and Rodrigo Sodré, and the appointment is seen as a major step for both the coach and the Moroccan side.
