Cape Verde launches new ship to secure Brava‑Fogo maritime link

The Cape Verde Ministry of the Sea announced that the newly acquired vessel Djabraba will operate a dedicated Brava‑Fogo route, providing five weekly sailings and remaining overnight on Brava to enable medical evacuations and other emergency transfers. The 26‑metre ship can carry up to 85 passengers and cargo, and its deployment follows certification inspections by the Institute Maritime Port Authority.

Minister João do Carmo emphasized that no island in Cape Verde should be isolated, describing the service as a public‑service principle. The government also expects to receive later this year the larger vessel Eugénio Tavares, being adapted in China, which will accommodate up to 250 passengers and further boost inter‑island mobility and tourism.
