The team’s organized, counter‑attacking style helped it eliminate Cameroon in the qualifiers, earning widespread support from the village of Monte Trigo and Cape Verdeans abroad in Portugal, the United States, France and elsewhere.

While the nation’s population is only about 500,000, more than half live abroad, and their enthusiasm will accompany the team to Qatar. The debut marks a milestone for a country whose history spans Portuguese colonisation, slave trade routes and a blend of cultures, now united by a shared dream on football’s biggest stage.
