Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha draws interest from Brazilian clubs after World Cup heroics

Josimar José Évora Dias, known as Vozinha, is the 40‑year‑old goalkeeper of the Cape Verde national team who became a breakout star at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His 0‑0 draw against Spain earned him Player of the Match honors and propelled his Instagram following from about 50 000 to more than 15 million.

After his contract with Portuguese Liga 2 side GD Chaves expired on 1 June, Vozinha became a free agent. Reports indicate that three Brazilian Serie B clubs are in talks with him, with a northeast club leading the interest. Ceará was formally offered his services but declined to open negotiations, while clubs such as Athletic‑MG have also evaluated a possible signing.

In Cape Verde, the municipality of São Miguel inaugurated streets named “Rua Vozinha” and “Rua Tubarão Azul” to honour the goalkeeper and the national team’s historic World Cup run. The goalkeeper is considering a move to Brazil, attracted by higher salaries than the €5 000 per month he earned in Portugal.
