Cape Verde President José Maria Neves Sends World Cup Message to Brazilian Town

President José Maria Neves of Cape Verde was interviewed on TVT News, where he discussed the archipelago’s geography, colonial history, languages and culture, and noted that the national football team qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, placed in Group H with Uruguay, Spain and Saudi Arabia.

In Brazil, the municipality of Cabo Verde in Minas Gerais – home to about 11,400 residents – received a video greeting from Neves. He said, "Queria cumprimentar os habitantes de Cabo Verde, no Brasil… estamos juntos, estamos a sofrer pela seleção de Cabo Verde," and expressed support for the team’s performance. The town, which maintains ties with the Cape Verdean embassy, has painted streets in the colors of both Brazil and Cape Verde as part of the World Cup celebrations.
