Capes announces postgraduate scholarships for indigenous students
The Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), an agency linked to the Ministry of Education, has released a list of postgraduate programs participating in the Indigenous Academic Development Program (PDAI). Indigenous students interested in pursuing master's or doctoral degrees can now consult the available opportunities through the Capes portal.
A total of 325 scholarships have been allocated, consisting of 214 for master's programs and 111 for doctoral programs. This number includes 25 additional scholarships added to the original 300 due to ties in the final classification rankings.
The scholarships are distributed across all five Brazilian regions: the North received 135, the Northeast 95, the Center-West 48, the Southeast 32, and the South 15. Allocation criteria included the proportion of the indigenous population in the program's municipality, the program's most recent quadrennial evaluation score, and the number of courses featuring indigenous themes.
