Capes launches Ciência é 10 program for science teacher training

The Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes) has launched the ‘Ciência é 10’ (C10) program, which will offer 3,920 training positions for science teachers. The initiative aims to improve the quality of science education for more than 400,000 elementary school students in public schools, specifically targeting those teaching 6th to 9th grade.

During the launch in Brasília, Education Minister Abraham Weintraub emphasized that the program focuses on classroom application to improve educational indicators. Capes President Anderson Correia noted that the program addresses one of the most underserved areas of education by providing teachers with new tools, content, and pedagogical methodologies.

Applications for the first selection process will open on Monday, September 30, through the websites of 19 participating federal and state higher education institutions across Brazil. Classes are scheduled to begin in February 2020.
