Capgemini and tech firms implement job cuts in France amid AI shift

Digital technology companies headquartered in the Issy-les-Moulineaux business district are facing significant workforce reductions linked to the rise of generative artificial intelligence.

Capgemini has launched a collective redundancy plan involving 2,400 employees in France. This move, alongside the non-replacement of natural departures, affects approximately 7% of its 35,000 French employees. Labor representatives, including Yacine Baghou of CGT Capgemini, have noted that the company had already seen a 6% reduction in staff the previous year. The company has indicated that the restructuring is driven by evolving client demands and technological shifts brought about by AI.

Other firms in the region are also seeing impacts. CGI has reportedly seen a loss equivalent to 1.5 jobs per day since 2023, leading to a redundancy plan for 300 people in the Île-de-France region. Additionally, Microsoft's campus in the area is scheduled to close in the summer of 2027. Local businesses in the district's Biltoki food hall have reported increasing instability due to the shifting workforce.
