Capgemini report reveals corporate struggle to manage climate-driven disruptions

A new report from the Capgemini Research Institute, titled ‘The Resilience Reset,’ reveals that while executives increasingly view climate change as a material business threat, most organizations lack the capability to measure and manage its impacts. The study, which surveyed 2,100 senior executives across 13 countries, highlights a significant gap between sustainability rhetoric and operational execution.

Climate-related disruptions are already affecting global operations. Approximately 87% of organizations report supply chain disruptions, 84% face raw material scarcity, and 82% report increased operating costs. Specific incidents cited include copper mining disruptions in Chile, petrochemical shutdowns in Texas and Louisiana, iPhone production issues in Shenzhen due to typhoons, and low water levels on the Rhine river in Europe.

In the UK, the impact of extreme heat has risen significantly, with 84% of organizations reporting financial losses. Executives are increasingly prioritizing water scarcity as a major challenge, often ranking it above energy concerns for the coming decade. While artificial intelligence is emerging as a tool for climate-risk forecasting and compliance, the report emphasizes that businesses can no longer defer action to protect infrastructure and essential resources.
