Capitec rebrands to Capitec Limited as interim profits rise 19%

Capitec has rebranded from Capitec Bank Holdings Limited to Capitec Limited, signaling a strategic shift toward a broader digital and financial services ecosystem. The announcement coincides with strong interim financial results for the six months ending 31 August 2026, where headline earnings rose 19% year-on-year to R9.5 billion.

The group’s expansion into non-banking verticals has significantly bolstered its performance. Fintech and value-added services (VAS)—including prepaid airtime, data, electricity, and money transfers—contributed R2.7 billion to headline earnings. Specifically, the Capitec Connect mobile service saw a 72% increase in net income to R284 million, with active clients growing to 1.8 million.

Capitec now serves 25.7 million customers in South Africa. To support client retention during difficult economic conditions, the company has maintained a fee freeze on selected transactional services for the second consecutive year. Non-interest income now accounts for 70% of total income from operations after credit impairments.
